Roberta Fallon's recent article in the Philadelphia Weekly has sparked a lively discussion on weather or not Art In City Hall still serves the Philadelphia art community. Check it out here.
The Graphic Conscience seeks to critique and elevate the discussion of printmaking and related fields. As a conscience, this forum will hold true to some of the original aspects of printed matter: its democratic nature, interrelationship with communication, and the role it plays in activism. Additionally, the Graphic Conscience aims to use the city of Philadelphia as a matrix for exploration and discussion of the medium of printmaking, and to bring attention to oft-neglected artists in the field.
Concurrent with this, this forum will explore how discussions in the democratic field of the web reflect the democratic nature of printed matter, and will investigate the idea of criticism as an intersection with printmaking, performance, and public interventions.
